In the Mouth of Madness (1994)

Directed by John Carpenter, staring Sam Neil – who was seen in “Jurassic Park” as a paleontologist.  Carpenter is one of only a couple of directors who can keep me extremely tense and on edge during an entire movie, film after film.  This film is the one that first turned me onto him and had me rent everything else that he’s ever done.  When viewing this movie, considering paying heed to the following directions for maximum effect:

  1. Go into a dark room at say, 10:00pm.
  2. Close the door.
  3. Make sure that you are alone.
  4. Pop in the tape.
  5. Do not get up for anything, do not be interrupted.

If you follow these instructions exactly, I would call you a liar if you told me that this film didn’t at least freak you out a little bit.
